Leveraging digital solutions to address growing waste management issues, promote the circular economy, encourage responsible waste disposal and increase awareness on the 5Rs (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle) amongst the general public.
Recognising the pivotal role educators play in shaping positive values and habits, the Green Wira Programme empowers selected teachers with the skills and tools to educate students about sustainability and zero-waste living, as well as to launch sustainability-related initiatives within their educational institutions.
In its pilot year in 2024, the programme delivered online modules, expert-led webinars, physical workshops and tailored coaching to 50 educators from 30 schools across Malaysia, with an eventual impact footprint of over 10,000 teachers and students. In addition, seed funding was awarded to two schools to develop student-led zero-waste projects, supporting students’ ambition to make an immediate difference at ground level.
Building on the programme’s successful first year, it expanded significantly in 2025, empowering 254 educators from 191 schools, with an eventual impact of over 150,000 teachers and students, and three new zero-waste projects funded.
With the continued support and specialised expertise of Zero Waste Malaysia, the programme aims to sustain its reach, nurturing an even larger community of sustainability champions to help guide a more sustainable future for the planet.
The Green Sprout Programme aims to nurture the next generation of climate champions by inspiring and empowering the young minds of today.
Building on the foundational knowledge imparted through the Green Bean Programme, which focused on general environmental issues, Green Sprout zeroes in specifically on climate change awareness and action. Through a blended, experiential learning approach that combines classroom sessions, industry sharing, field trips, design thinking workshops, mentoring and an innovation challenge, participants develop a deeper understanding of this key issue and its impact on planet and people, igniting their motivation to make a positive difference.
Drawing on the diverse knowledge and skills developed throughout the programme, participants are tasked with creating a prototype for a climate- or sustainability-focused innovation. Several participating schools went on to showcase their projects at the MyDigitalMaker Fair 2024, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
In total, 240 students from eight schools - SK Bukit Batu, SK Desa Cempaka, SK Kalumpang, SK Taman Selasih, SK Kantan Permai, SK Datok Keramat 2, SK Cheras Jaya, and SK Taman Segar - participated in the programme, which was delivered in collaboration with Forest Interactive Foundation. Beyond these numbers, the programme’s true impact extends further—through the sustainability initiatives championed by participants, a ripple effect of awareness and activism is created, helping to sprout eco-warriors across each participating school.
Aims to reduce wastage and divert food fit for consumption from landfills.
In collaboration with The Lost Food Project, we collected surplus flood from various supermarkets and distributed it to those in need, supporting approximately 350 people across eight charities.
By rescuing surplus food and ensuring it does not go to waste, this initiative not only conserves resources and reduces methane emissions, but also reduces food insecurity and poverty.
Exposes young students to the principles of environmental conservation and protection, creating a positive change for our planet and future.
In 2023, through the Green Bean programme by Axiata Foundation and Forest Interactive Foundation, 120 kids aged 10 to 12 learned to protect and care for the environment via a two-day adventure of learning and fun, with 16 passionate AxiataCares Volunteer (ACV) contributing their time and effort to share valuable environmental knowledge.
Through indoor and outdoor activities, we aim to nurture young eco-warriors who are true champions for the planet we share, as well as help them develop key skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, strengthening their ability to make a difference.
